Children learn about natural play spaces with Cornelia Oberlander
We visited an elementary school to conduct a children's program with Cornelia Oberlander and Beryl Allen. Children learned about ecosystems and the effect of the city on the wilderness. They explored their role in ecosystems as they analyzed the personal perception values of the woods in their school yard. Cornelia led a site walk and interpreted some of the site values for the children. The purpose of the exercise was for children to understand how a schoolyard is, in fact, an ecosystem, and for them to analyze the qualities of a great play space. During the site walk, children climbed trees and jumped on rocks, ran around bushes in the schoolyard. The presence of Ms. Oberlander made this site walk very special.
